That's a Wrap - Rustlers Men's Futsal
Lakeland College Athletics enjoyed a season for the ages. Over the next week, we will be sharing a recap of each team's second semester finish.
Results
Men's futsal aren't satisfied, but growth is in store for the team next year.
Faced with a difficult scenario in qualifying for the postseason, the Rustlers went 7-3, finishing ahead of the NAIT Ooks in the second spot in the North Division. At the tournament, the team split their round robin contests, before losing in extra time in the quarterfinal round.
Highlights
Hani Tekheste, who competed in his final season as a Rustler, was named to the ACAC North All-Conference team for his two-way play.
In the second regional, facing a must-win game with the NAIT Ooks, Lakeland won a 2-1 thriller.
Summer Outlook:
The team is already getting started with a Regional training camp weekend April 19-21. 10 players from both futsal and soccer are back next season and will be in town to start August.
Coaches/Players Stamp
Kevin Wagner, Men's Futsal
"Finishing without a medal in futsal is a disappointing way to finish up our season. We need to be better. We have 10 players returning that will lead our new 24-25 program."
Hani Tekheste, Male Athlete of the Year
"Really disappointing finish to our season. Everything leading up to the championship was there for us. The more challenging job was supposed to be getting out of our conference as the North is much stronger than the South which we did but we didn't want it enough at the end and the South teams did not back down."
"I take pride in my work ethic and that's what keeps me going. Though we did not win a medal this year, I hope those players that are returning next year feed off my personal accomplishments and use it as motivation to earn their own awards next year and hopefully earn another medal or two for our program."
