Rustlers Men's Futsal win ACAC Bronze
Men's futsal traveled north to Fort McMurray, where the ACAC Championship was hosted by Keyano College. The team had narrowly qualified for the tournament at the North Regional In Lac La Biche.
They started the tournament with a 7-2 blowout of the Olds Broncos. Nathan Tran won Player of the Game, being one of several goal scorers for the Rustlers. The following morning, Lakeland defeated the NAIT Ooks 7-4. Tran had another pair of goals, while Sam Dosumu had a hat trick.
This set up a semifinal matchup with the SAIT Trojans on Sunday. There the Rustlers fell 4-2 in extra time against the Trojans, a very hard fought match. Gavin Quinlan was the POG.
Lakeland had to quickly rebound to compete for bronze against the Lethbridge Kodiaks in the afternoon. Initially the men in green trailed 2-1, with Gio Ciccacci scoring the team's lone goal in the first half. However, Hani Tekheste came up huge for the Rustlers in the second, scoring three straight goals to propel Lakeland to another podium finish in men's futsal.
Dosumu and Ciccacci were named to the tournament All-Star team.
Men's futsal will now have some time to take care of homework before players adjust their training routine to prepare for the outdoor season next year.
