Three Volleyball Rustlers make ACAC All Conference teams
On February 26, 2020 the ACAC All Conference Volleyball teams were announced at their respective Championships. Three Lakeland Rustler student-athletes were named to their respective teams.
On the women's side, first-year left side Jenay Varga from Muenster, SK. was named as one of the top outside hitters in the ACAC. Varga, a second year Bachelor of General Studies student had a great season with the Rustlers. She amassed 283 kills (3.14 kills/set), 60 service aces (0.67 aces/set), 265 digs (2.94 digs/set), 20 blocks (0.22 blocks/set). With the phenomenal season that Jenay had she ended up setting two Lakeland College single season records in kills (283, previously held by Ashley Lange in 13-14) and aces (60, previously held by Ahnika Kuse in 14-15). Jenay finished third in the ACAC in kills, kills per set, aces, aces per set and was 7th in digs and 10th in digs per set. For her accomplishments Varga was also awarded the ACAC North Rookie of the Year.
For the men left side, Matt Peck was selected as one of the top outside hitters in ACAC men's volleyball. Peck has had another outstanding season and was a key piece to the Rustlers return to the ACAC Championships after a long hiatus. The fourth-year Accounting major led the Rustlers in kills with 215 over the season and total points with 249. Peck also finished fourth in the ACAC with a .366 hitting percentage.
Also selected to the ACAC All Conference team was Jean Carlo Funez. JC a fourth-year libero, had another outstanding season finishing the season fourth in the ACAC in digs with 231 as well as fourth in the league with 2.66 digs per set. The Appraisal and Assessment student athlete held an incredible serve receive percentage throughout the year and always showcased at least one incredible defensive play per match.
