Rustlers Women's Volleyball | Weekend Recap - Nov 15 & 16, 2019
The Rustlers women's volleyball team got two wins this past weekend over the Augustana Vikings. The women now have 5 wins and 3 losses with two weekends to go in the first semester.
On Friday night in Camrose, the Rustlers women's volleyball team won a five-set thriller (17-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-13, 15-10).
The Rustlers had a rocky start and struggled defensively, allowing the Vikings to get ahead early. By the time the Rustlers settled into the set, it was already won.
The Rustlers bounced-back in the second set and controlled the ball on serve receive and started to get some digs defensively. The Rustlers would win the second set handily, 25-21.
The third set seemed to be a bit of a repeat of the first set for the Rustlers. The Rustlers showed a lot of resilience throughout the entire match and they did not let the third set defeat faze them. They came out firing in the fourth set winning 25-13.
Midway through the fourth set was when the Rustlers took total control. The Vikings seemed to completely fall apart under the Rustlers' pressure. In the fifth, the Rustlers carried their momentum from their big fourth set win and finished the game 15-10.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was fifth-year middle blocker Avery Maginel with 10 kills, 2 blocks and 3 digs. Rustler's right-side Bailee Weiler had 18 kills in the match, along with 1 block and 9 digs.
On Saturday night in Lloydminster, the Rustlers would complete their weekend sweep by capitalizing on the defeated Vikings. The Rustlers would win this game in three straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-19).
The Rustlers had a very clean performance and controlled majority of the game. Fourth-year right side Bailee Weiler had another stellar performance with 16 kills and 12 digs. First-year outside Madison Blain had 6 kills, 1 block and 9 digs, earning her player of the game honours.
The Rustlers will be on homecourt again this coming Friday, November 22 at 6 pm against the Concordia Thunder.
