That's a Wrap - Rustlers Women's Hockey
Lakeland College Athletics enjoyed a season for the ages. Over the next week, we will be sharing a recap of each team's second semester finish.
Results
These early accomplishments for the women's hockey program in just two years is remarkable.
The Rustlers sophomore campaign resulted in a first-place finish at the end of the regular season, off of a 21-4 record, and a silver medal in the postseason. After a bronze finish last year, Lakeland was far and away the best team in the ACAC for the majority of the regular season, losing in a tight four-game series to the NAIT Ooks in the finals.
Highlights
In the second semester, the Rustlers won 11 straight games, racking up their goal differential to 75. In their semifinal series against the SAIT Trojans, the squad had to come back from losing the opener in overtime, as well as a two-goal deficit in Game 3.
Four players were named to the ACAC All-Conference teams - Keyra Buziak, Darby Robertson and Mackenzie Dojahn on the 2nd Team and Hailey Carothers on the 1st Team - and they won three women's hockey awards in Coach of the Year - Morgan Mann, Rookie fo the Year - Keyra Buziak and Top Scorer - Hailey Carothers.
Statistics
Carothers was first in both goals (21) and points (36), while Robertson finished second in points (30) and tied for first in assists (17). Buziak was fifth in points with 23, tops among blueliners. Dojahn was second in total saves (440) and winning percentage (.789).
Summer Outlook
Dojahn is transferring next season, while the majority of the core of the team will be back.
