Rustlers Women's Basketball | Weekend Recap - Feb 14 & 15, 2020
The Rustlers women's basketball team defeated the Augustana Vikings in both games this past weekend.
On Friday night on homecourt, the Rustlers would win by a score of 76-61 over the Vikings. At the end of the first quarter the game was tied 19-19. In the second quarter, the Rustlers would extend their lead to 10 points, led by fifth-year forward, Brianne Hergott with 9 points and 2 rebounds in the quarter.
The Rustlers would keep their lead through the third quarter and continued to extend their lead in the fourth quarter. The final score would be 76-61 for the Rustlers over the Vikings.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was fifth-year forward, Brianne Hergott for her lead in the second quarter charge that would be the difference in the game. She had 13 points, 7 and 7 rebounds in the game for the Rustlers.
Third-year guard, Jaden Cook had 14 points in the game, as well as 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Third-year forward, Bilge Topaloglu added 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block, and third-year forward, Hailey Somers had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals in the game.
On Saturday the Rustlers defeated the Vikings with a come-from-behind win, 64-58. At the half, the Rustlers were down 34-30, and by the end of the third quarter the Rustlers were down 48-42.
In the fourth quarter the Rustlers outscored the Vikings 22-10 to come back and win the game 64-58. The fourth quarter charge was led by first-year guard, Tayla Pipes with 9 points, and fourth-year guard, Tori Dugan with 7 points and 1 rebound.
Player of the game for the Rustlers went to Tayla Pipes with 12 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist, and her contribution in the fourth quarter that would be the difference in the game. Tori Dugan would finish the game with 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Third-year guard, Jaden Cook had 11 points, and 6 rebounds and Hailey Somers, Bilge Topaloglu and Brianne Hergott each had 6 points in the game for the Rustlers. Hergott and Topaloglu combined for 27 rebounds in the game.
The Rustlers have improved to a record of 16-4 and will be taking on the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks this coming weekend on Friday night at 6 pm in the Lakeland College Gymnasium.
