Coast 2 Coast 2 Coast
Saturday Feb 11 the Lakeland College Rowing team (Rustler Crew) and the Lakeland Rowing Club (LRC) hosted the local site for this cross-Canada event at the college Rec Centre in Vermilion.
From 9:00 am to noon, 19 rowers, including 5 members of Rustler Crew, kept the rowing machines (ergs) in constant motion piling up a grand total of 155,155 meters. In Alberta this put us second in number of rowers participating and second in total metres rowed behind the Calgary Rowing club and gave us an average of 8166 m/rower. This also helped Alberta post both the second highest number of participants (117) and second in total metres rowed (over 738,000 m) behind only Ontario.
Some of the big numbers came from two members of Rustler Crew, Allecia McDonald erging 19,387m and Alex Schroer erging 25,024m while coach Jenny McGuiness rowed 22,984m and LRC club President Kati White rowed 17,763m!!
Nationwide we exceeded last years numbers in both number of rowers (over 600) and metres rowed (4,736,260m) so nearly all the way across Canada which was the goal. We had participants from 37 clubs and organizations and numerous individuals from all 10 Provinces and one Territory submitting their metres from 9am to noon in their own time zone; so the event started bright and early in newfoundland at 900am their time and wrapped up at noon on the west coast in BC.
Rustler Crew and Lakeland Rowing Club would like to thank Lakeland College for their cooperation and help with this event and we look forward to boosting our numbers next!!
