Rustlers Men's Soccer | Weekend Recap - Sept 28 & 29, 2019
The Rustlers men's soccer team split their weekend series against the Portage College Voyageurs on Saturday and The King's University Eagles on Sunday. The Rustlers defeated the Voyageurs 8-0 and fell just short of the Eagles 0-1.
Saturday's game at Portage College allowed for plenty of opportunities to get a variety of players on the field to earn some playing experience. The Rustlers would score five goals in the first half and add another 3 in the second half.
Eammon Sych and Muhumure Muhoze would score two goals each, with Sam Gibson, Zach Wagner, Dandi Januari and Narcisse Mbwebwe each adding to the scoreboard as well.
Sunday's game at VLA Field proved to be more challenging for the Rustlers facing The King's University Eagles. The solo goal in the game from the Eagles would come early in the second half.
The Rustlers had plenty of opportunity in the game, mustering ten shots on goal over the Eagles with only 4.
Head coach Kevin Wagner expressed his disappointment after the loss, "we need to stop using the crutch that we are rookies as an excuse for poor execution in the attacking and defending thirds of the field."
The player of the game for the Rustlers was Sam Gibson.
The young Rustler team looks to bounce back next weekend as they take on the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves in a double-header series. The Rustlers will kick off at their home field in Lloydminster on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6 at 2 pm.
