Rustlers Men's Soccer | Weekend Recap - Sept 21, 2019
The Rustlers men's soccer team played a dominant game this weekend against the Portage College Voyageurs winning 15-0. This was a bounce-back game after the Rustlers loss to the NAIT Ooks last weekend in Edmonton.
The Rustlers would score 9 goals in the first half and 6 in the second half to close out the game. The Rustler goals came from a range of players including 3 goals from Kenan Ibrisimovic and 2 goals each from Eyad Banjar, Oore Peters, and Giordano Ciccacci. The team owes its success to their teamwork and ability to distribute the ball to each other proficiently.
Coach Kevin Wagner felt the status of the opposing team also played a factor: "timing is important," he said, "the men's squad was fortunate to come up against a Portage squad battling numerous injuries."
The large goal differential allowed for the Rustlers to get all 18 players on the roster into the game, which is important for their growth and development. Player of the game for the Rustlers was a second-year defenseman, Chase Cal.
An outstanding performance by the Rustler men on the pitch this weekend will leave the team to regroup and prepare for 4 games in the next 2 weeks that are quite important, in coach Wagner's opinion.
The Rustlers will travel to Portage College this coming weekend to face the Voyageurs once again on Saturday, September 28th. They will then return to their home VLA field to take on The King's University Eagles on Sunday, September 29th.
