Lakeland Rustlers MBB players honoured
It's a trifecta of all-stars for the Lakeland Rustlers men's basketball team this year.
Fifth year Allayasa "Asa" Bray was named to the ACAC North Division 1st Team, while 4th year Bahaeddin "Baha" Salma and 3rd year Chance Samuel were named to the 2nd Team. The announcement came during the awards banquet of the ACAC Championship, hosted by the Briercrest Clippers.
In his second season with the Rustlers, Bray became the squad's most important offensive player, scoring 15.2 points per game (PTS/G) averaging 48 per cent from the field and 34 per cent from 3. He also tied for the team lead in rebounds per game (REB/G) with 6 and had a team high 7 blocks. Bray's best weekend came Feb. 7-8 against NWP, where he posted 52 points in the two victories.
One of the premier two-way players in the ACAC, Baha Salma made the 2nd North Team for the second straight season, averaging a career best 13 PTS/G, shooting 51 per cent from the field, good for ninth in the league. He also averaged 4.5 REB/G, 3.6 assists per game (A/G) and 1.8 steals per game (S/G). In Lakeland's final home game against the NAIT Ooks, Salma had 22 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 6 steals.
Chance Samuel also took on a bigger role in his second year as a Rustler, finishing second on the team in scoring with 14.3 PTS/G, while also averaging 4.4 REB/G and 2.8 A/G. One of his most complete games was against the SAIT Trojans, where he posted 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
