Curling Teams Preparing for Conference Championships
The Rustler Curling teams traveled to Red Deer this past weekend to compete in their second regional tournament. The women and mixed teams have been improving over the last few weeks preparing for the conference championships. On Saturday the teams played back-to-back draws. The women's team started the day off against Red Deer in a close game winning the game 6 – 5. The women's second game was against the Augustana Vikings where they were able to build a lead on their way to a 10 – 4 lead. The women finish the round-robin with a 3 and 1 record going into the Conference Championships.
The mixed team improved significantly from the first weekend also earning two wins to add to their record. The team's first game was against the SAIT Trojans where they were able to eeked out an 8 – 7 victory. Immediately after the Rustlers took on the NAIT Ooks where they were able to earn their second victory of the day 7 – 5. The mixed team finished the round-robin with a 2 and 2 record.
Both Curling teams will be practicing over the next couple of weeks to prepare for the Conference Championships that will occur on March 5th and 6th that will be hosted in Camrose by the University of Alberta Augustana. With the teams' constant improvement they have a great chance to return home with some ACAC hardware in March.
