Dusty Makichuk named ACAC 2019-20 Curling Coach of the Year
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Dusty Makichuk of the Lakeland Rustlers has been named the ACAC Curling Coach of the Year.
Dusty has been involved with the Lakeland Curling team for many years but has only filled the role of head coach since the 2014 – 2015 season. Makichuk brought 20 years of coaching experience with him when he joined the coaching staff at Lakeland and is a Level 2 coach as well as a Level 2 curling umpire. He is extremely passionate about the sport and has coached all levels of student athletes from rocks in the rings beginners to curlers competing at the provincial and national level, coaching athletes on the World Curling tour.
This year the Rustlers have a predominantly young team that improved each curling competition. The men's and mixed teams moved on to compete at the Conference Championship where the men's team will work to secure a spot at the national championships for the second straight year.
Lakeland Athletic Director Alan Rogan stated, "Dusty is a passionate and dedicated coach who strives to help the student athletes achieve their highest potential."
Dusty received the award on February 28th,2020 at the ACAC Curling Conference Championship Banquet held in Red Deer, AB.
