Men's Volleyball Season Preview
Matt Peck is returning to the Rustlers Men's Volleyball team and head coach Taylor Dyer for one is excited about it. Coach Dyer describes, "Peck who plays libero, is fun to watch, and a big motivator for the team, someone we expect will lead by example." Much of the Rustlers roster is made up of first or second year players, and with only one player entering their third year of eligibility, coach Dyer is excited to see the growth of the team this year and in the upcoming years.
A key this year for Coach Dyer is that the team will have depth on the bench. Incoming players have played at high level, including a transfer from College of the Rockies and a 6' 7" middle from Newfoundland who played on the Canada Games team this summer.
Another positive for the Rustlers is that the sport is starting to grow in the community and more local players are joining the college team. The addition of the Rustlers Volleyball club has created more opportunities for local players, something which there has not been much of in the past.
With a young team, Coach Dyer hopes this year can be the start of a culture change for the Rustlers. The Rustlers haven't made the playoffs since the 2007-2008 season with making playoffs being the long-term goal for the season. To get there, the goal is to win every match, every weekend.
Coach Dyer doesn't see the team as being under pressure because of their recent lack of success, but is confident that this year's team will be competitive and that mindset is the starting point for the changes he believes can happen this year.
