Sigurdson Selected ACAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year
For the second time in Rustler Women's volleyball history a student-athlete has been selected as the top Volleyball player in the ACAC.
Rae Sigurdson started 23 of 24 matches this season and set the Rustlers to a 20-3 record in the matches she started. Statistically this season in 83 sets played Rae accumulated 9.76 Assists/set, 1.4 digs/set, 0.36 kills/set, and 0.14 blocks/set. She led the ACAC in total assists and assists/set. Rae's decision making and ability to spread the ball around to her attackers allowed for all five of her starting attackers to have over 100 kills this season, with two of them having over 200 kills.
"Rae has embraced the athletic mission at Lakeland College which involves excellence in our three C's; success in the classroom, community, and on the court," stated head coach Austin Dyer. "Rae has always had a high academic standing. She has volunteered in the community and organized events for charity. As an athlete Rae has done things the right way, leading by example, to lead her team to success on the court. Rae exemplifies everything a coach could ask for in a student athlete."
Rae is a Business Administration student-athlete from Oakbank, MB. This prestigious award was presented to Rae at the 2019 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship at Ambrose University. Rae will now compete against the other conferences in the country for the CCAA Women's Volleyball Player of the Year award.
