Women's Volleyball Weekend Recap | January 28, 2018
The Lakeland Rustlers Women's Volleyball team travelled to Grande Prairie on the weekend to face the Wolves. The team returned with two more wins to remain undefeated on the season, sitting atop the ACAC North division with an 18-0 record. The Rustlers defeated the Wolves in 4 sets (21-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16) Friday night and again in 4 sets (22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-7) Saturday afternoon.
Friday night, the Rustlers were led by 4th-year middle Shelby Becker with 14 kills, ten digs, and four blocks. Fourth year outside hitter Ahnika Kuse added nine kills, and seven digs and 2nd-year middle Chelsea Steinley had eight kills, two digs, and 11 blocks. Fourth year setter Rae Sigurdson had 22 assists, three digs and four blocks for the Rustlers. Player of the Game for the Rustlers was Becker.
Saturday afternoon, the Rustlers were led by Becker with 12 kills and five digs. The Rustlers also go nine kills and nine digs from Kuse, and eight kills, two services aces, six digs and two blocks from 3rd-year outside hitter Avery Maginel. Sigurdson had 35 assists, three services aces and two digs for the Rustlers. Player of the Game for the Rustlers was Maginel.
The Rustlers return to the court next weekend, February 2nd & 3rd against the NAIT Ooks. The Rustlers will play host to the Ooks Friday night, before traveling to Edmonton on Saturday. Friday night's game will get started at 6:00 pm as the Rustlers take part in RBC's Make Some Noise for Mental Health.
