Women's Volleyball help Operation Christmas Child
The Lakeland Rustlers Women's Volleyball team is getting into the Christmas spirit early this year, creating shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child is a program in which shoe boxes are filled with hygiene items, school supplies, and toys and then given to children who are struggling around the world. Creating the shoe boxes is one of two volunteer/charity events chosen by the team to do throughout the year.
Rustlers third year Right Side Avery Maginel explained her team's reasoning for creating the shoe boxes.
"We had made team goals at the start of the year, and one was to do one big charity thing per semester," Maginel said. "We thought this one (Operation Christmas Child) would be a nice one to do, just because everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit now."
When asked about what the team would do next semester, Maginel said the team has yet to decide. "We usually do the President's Gala," Maginel said, "but I don't think that will be our big one. In the past, we have done things that people have ties to with their family, like if someone has a family member with Alzheimer's for example, but I am not sure what we are going to do next semester yet."
