Rustlers Women's Soccer | Weekend Recap - Oct 12 & 13, 2019
The Rustlers women's soccer team lost their pair of games this past weekend. On Saturday, the women lost 9-0 to the Concordia Thunder, and on Sunday, a loss of 5-0 to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks.
Saturday's game in Edmonton was a challenging one for the Rustlers. The Rustlers had trouble containing the more experienced Thunder. The Thunder would score 5 goals in the first half and 4 in the second half. Rustlers goalkeeper, Nicole Prium, would face 30 shots on goal throughout the game, making 21 saves.
Head coach Laith Matlak said after the game, "we have a hard time turning up for away games, it has been a consistent thing for us this season." He feels the women are not comfortable and able to perform to their full potential on away soil.
The player of the game for the Rustlers was Lauren Murray.
Saturday's game would be no easy feat for the Rustler women as they took on the undefeated NAIT Ooks. The Rustlers would lose 5-0 to the Ooks, suffering 4 goals in the first half and 1 in the second half.
Matlak was happy with the women's improvement since their last meeting with the NAIT Ooks: "I thought the team played well, despite losing 10-0 to the Ooks a few weeks ago, this result is an improvement."
He added, "I feel the team is growing and gaining key experiences that will help mold them in the future."
The player of the game for the Rustlers was Natasha Leudkte.
The Rustlers will finish off their regular season next weekend in Fort McMurray against the Keyano College Huskies. Games are at 12 pm on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20 and will be streamed live on acactv.ca
