The Rustlers women's soccer team ended their double-header series with the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves with a loss on Saturday and a tie on Sunday.
Saturday's game was a loss of 1-5 for the Rustlers to the Wolves, who proved to be too much for the Rustlers. The Wolves had 21 shots on goal to the Rustlers 7.
At the half, the Rustlers were down 0-3, and the Wolves would add another goal early in the second half. In the 73rd minute, Sarah Costa would score for the Rustlers, assisted by Rachel Stein. The Wolves would score only moments later to result in a final score of 1-5.
Head coach Laith Matlak was disappointed in the team's performance in the game as he felt that his team did not come ready to play, but the Wolves did. He added, "by the time we started to play, it was too late, and I do not feel the score reflected how we should have played."
The player of the game for the Rustlers was first-year striker Sarah Costa.
On Sunday, the Rustlers looked to bounce back after their Saturday loss. At the half, the Rustlers were up 2-0 thanks to goals scored by Sarah Costa and Kimberlea Pfiel.
Early in the second half, the Wolves would score 2 goals of their own to tie up the game. Kimberlie Pfiel would add another goal to the scoreboard for the Rustlers shortly after.
In the final minute of play, the Wolves would score their final goal to make the final score 3-3.
Matlak was more pleased with his team's performance on Sunday as they "came out ready and hungry and got 2 goals for it." The end-result of the game was not what he was looking for, but he added: "We need to play full games, if we cannot play 90 minutes, we will not win games."
The player of the game for the Rustlers was Kimberlea Pfiel.
The Rustlers will play their final match of the season on home field Sunday, October 13 at 12 pm against the NAIT Ooks.
