Women's Soccer Weekend Recap | September 30, 2017
While the Rustlers women's soccer team didn't win either game on the weekend, the team did score their first goal of the season.
Saturday, the Rustlers faced the Olds Broncos. The Rustlers Jodie Stoker scored in the 14th minute on an assist from Rachel Fogh to give the Rustlers an early lead. Minutes later, the Broncos tied up it at one and then continued to add to their lead, before winning the game 5-1. Player of the game for the Rustlers was Nikki Boutin.
Head Coach Kevin Wagner was pleased with his team's performance, despite the loss. "The girls played their best game we have played all year," Wagner said. "We are improving, and we are just getting to a point where teams where teams were a couple of weeks ago, so we don't see our improvements on the scoreboard. We are getting more shots on goal, better passes, making better plays, we are just still behind."
Sunday, the Rustlers faced the SAIT Trojans in Calgary. The Rustlers gave up a goal three minutes into the game, which was the first of nine goals the Trojans would go on to score in the game. Danielle Blacklock started in goal for the Rustlers, but was replaced in the first half by Jodie Stoker. Stoker was player of the game for the Rustlers.
"We are missing difference makers," Wagner said. "We need someone who can make something out of nothing."
The Rustlers return to the field October 14th and 15th when they play host to the Lethbridge Kodiaks and Medicine Hat Rattlers.
