Women's Soccer Opening Weekend Recap
Despite losing both games in opening weekend action of the ACAC soccer season, Rustlers Women's Soccer Head Coach Kevin Wagner was happy with the team's performance. "The girls worked hard and showed good effort," Wagner said. "It was a good opening weekend, and we are going to continue to develop."
Saturday the Rustlers dropped the match 5-0 to the Medicine Hat Rattlers. Player of the match was Olivia Lay. Sunday the Rustlers lost 3-0 to the Lethbridge Kodiaks. Player of the match was Rachel Fogh.
The Rustlers played better on Sunday than they had on Saturday, showing promise that the team will continue to improve in the coming weeks. Goalkeeper Danielle Blacklock, who is new to the position, is continuing to learn and will only get better with experience, and the team will continue to work on attacking patterns to get more and better shots on goal.
The Rustlers return to the pitch next weekend, September 16-17, for their home opener versus the SAIT Trojans (1-0) and Olds College Broncos (0-1). Kick-off is at 12:00 pm at VLA field.
