Rustlers Women's Basketball | Weekend Recap - January 24 & 25, 2020
The Rustlers women's basketball team is back in the win column after 2 wins over The King's University Eagles this past weekend.
On Friday the Rustlers defeated the Eagles 69-46 in the home gym in Edmonton.
Both the Eagles and the Rustlers started the game strong, with the Rustlers only up by 2 at the end of the first quarter. However, after that the Rustlers would run away with the game, significantly outscoring the Eagles in each quarter.
At the half, the Rustlers were up 33-22 with fifth-year forward, Brianne Hergott scoring 10 of the Rustlers 16 points in the second quarter.
The Rustlers would further extend this lead into the second half of the game and would finish the game with a 23-point difference over the Eagles.
The Rustlers were led by third-year guard, Jaden Cook with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Brianne Hergott had 12 points for the Rustlers along with 8 rebounds and 1 assist, earning herself player of the game.
Third-year forward, Bilge Topaloglu scored 12 points for the Rustlers and had 8 rebounds, and 1 assist in the game. First-year guard, Tayla Pipes also added 8 points for the Rustlers and 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.
On Saturday in Lloydminster the Rustlers defeated the Eagles 84-50. Similar to Friday, the Eagles and the Rustlers would battle to start the game. At the end of the first quarter the Rustlers were up by 5 points, 18-13.
The Rustlers would have a strong second quarter, stretching their lead to 43-26. The second quarter charge was led by third-year guard, Jaden Cook with 11 points.
The Rustlers would carry this lead through the third quarter, and in the final quarter they would outscore the Eagles 24-6 to win the game by 34 points, 84-50.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was Jaden Cook with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Brianne Hergott had another solid game on Saturday with 12 points, a team-high 16 rebounds and 1 assist.
Bilge Topaloglu added 12 points for the Rustlers, as well as 6 rebounds and 6 assists. First-year Ellie Lieffers had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in the game.
The Rustlers basketball teams will host the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves this upcoming weekend in their double-home series. Game times are 6 pm on Friday, January 31, and 1 pm on Saturday, February 1.
