Rustlers Women's Basketball | Weekend Recap - January 17 & 18, 2020
The Rustlers women's basketball team suffered 2 losses on the road to the Keyano College Huskies this past weekend; just their second and third loss of the season.
On Friday night, the Rustlers would be defeated by the Huskies by only 2 points, 47-49. The Rustlers would go up early, and at the half they led by 10 points.
The Rustlers kept their 10-point lead through the third quarter, however, the Rustlers defense could not contain the desperate Huskies in the fourth quarter, where they would come back from their deficit to defeat the Rustlers by one basket, 49-47.
The Rustlers were led by their forwards, third-year Bilge Topaloglu and fifth-year Brianne Hergott. Topaloglu had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocks earning her player of the game honours, and Hergott had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block.
Fourth-year guard Ally Pilgrim added 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block for the Rustlers. Third-year Jaden Cook had 6 points, 2 assists and 2 steals in the game.
On Saturday afternoon the Rustlers looked to bounce-back but would ultimately fall to the Huskies again 50-55.
The Rustlers would have a strong first quarter and would outscore the Huskies 17-8. The Huskies would fight back to put them up by 2 points at the half, 25-23 over the Rustlers.
The Huskies would extend their lead to 3 by the end of the third quarter, and to 5 by the end of the game where they would defeat the Rustlers 55-50.
The Rustlers effort was led by third-year guard Hailey Somers with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals earning herself player of the game. Fourth-year guard Tori Dugan would manage a team-high 9 assists for the Rustlers as well as 6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Cook would score 8 points and had 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the game, and Topaloglu would also score 8 points and had 1 assist.
The Rustlers will return to homecourt this upcoming weekend to take on The King's University Eagles on Saturday, January 25 at 6 pm and will look to improve from this weekend's lessons.
