Rustlers Women's Basketball | Weekend Recap - Nov 1 & 2, 2019
The Lakeland women's basketball team captured 2 wins this past weekend over The King's University Eagles.
Friday evening in Lloydminster, the Rustlers had a dominant performance over the Eagles winning the game 73-49. At the half, the Rustlers were up by only 2, 26-24, but the second half was when the Rustlers really started to show their dominance.
In the third quarter, the Rustlers outscored the Eagles 27-11 led by fourth-year guard Angela Baran with 9 points, along with guards Hailey Somers, Tori Dugan, and forward Bilge Topaloglu with 4 each.
The Rustlers continued their supremacy into the fourth quarter, finishing the game with a score of 73-49. The Rustlers spread the ball around, having nearly every player on their team with two or more points in the fourth quarter.
Fifth-year forward Brianne Hergott had 9 rebounds in the game, and Hailey Somers had 8. Player of the game for the Rustlers was fourth-year Angela Baran with 18 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Saturday night in Edmonton, the Rustlers took on the Eagles in their home gym and defeated them once again, 63-50.
The Rustlers were led by first-year guard Tayla Pipes with 17 points and 3 rebounds. Saturday's game was very similar to Friday's game in which the first half between the Rustlers and the Eagles was close, and the second half was where the Rustlers overpowered the Eagles.
At the half, the Rustlers were up only one point, 27-26. It was in the second half that Pipes would lead the charge for the Rustlers, scoring 12 of her 17 total points in the second half
Third-year guard Jaden Cook added 14 points to the board, and Brianne Hergott added 10. Hergott also played a major role in the Rustlers defense with 4 defensive rebounds, and third-year forward Bilge Topalogu had 9 rebounds in the game.
The Rustler basketball teams host the Keyano College Huskies in a double-header home weekend series this coming weekend. Game times on Friday, November 8th are 6 pm for the women and 8 pm for the men. On Saturday, November 9th, the games are at 1 pm for the women and 3 pm for the men.
