Racing Crew head to Calgary
Rustler crew racing in Calgary… More of the same!!
On September 29th, Lakeland College rowing team was in Calgary to race in the Dino Sprints hosted by the University of Calgary.
Although the temperature was a little colder than the week before in Edmonton there was no snow this time and for the most part not much wind. This provided pretty fair conditions for the crews and they were able to build on their previous performances.
The best boat of the day was the novice womens quad. After they finished 11th out of 12 boats in the time trials in the morning they turned it around and in the final in the afternoon put together a very convincing race finishing third. In fact they finished 6 seconds ahead of their teammates in the Rustler Senior women's crew.
All the women got together in the women's 8+ and finished fourth out of seven boats in a very strong field in that race.
The men meanwhile rowed in 2 events and while they trailed in both races they got much stronger and technically better in their second race posting the fastest time for a Lakeland crew that day in the men's quad.
The crews then had two weeks to prepare for their last races of the season, the Western Canadian University rowing championships, happening in Leduc this year Saturday, October 13.
