A little snow didn't stop them
Rustler Crew rowed in the snow in Edmonton.
Saturday the varsity rowing team headed to the Edmonton RC for their first racing action of the season. The time trials hosted by the University of Alberta rowing team and the Edmonton RC took place on the North Saskatchewan River.
In the morning trials Lakeland College put a novice eight with a mixed crew and a novice women's quad on the water. For both crews it was their first time rowing against the clock and against competition so, while their times were not spectacular, it was important for them to experience that race environment. Snow and the cold may have added a little to their misery but they finished the 4 km trial maintaining good technique which is very encouraging
In the afternoon trials the novice men's quad put in an excellent row finishing behind some very experienced crews from the University of Alberta. They also felt that while they had a good row they can see where they need to get a lot better. We also put all the women in the eight and they rowed a very good technical row despite the worsening conditions and would have posted the best time of the afternoon for Rustler Crew except for a timing glitch!!
Coaches Jenn and Peter also got in the action racing a mixed double in the Masters class and posting a very respectable time.
The crews are back in the water this week getting ready for the Dino Challenge hosted by the University of Calgary this Saturday at the Calgary Rowing Club.
