Rustlers Men's Volleyball | Weekend Recap - Feb 14 & 15, 2020
The Rustlers men's volleyball team lost both matches to The King's University Eagles this past weekend.
On Friday night the Rustlers fell to the Eagles in 3 straight sets (21-25, 20-25, 18-25). In the first set, the Rustlers hung with the Eagles until the end of the set, where they Eagles would pull away and win 25-21 over the Rustlers.
The second set was similar to the first set where the Eagles would overpower the Rustlers late in the set. In the third set, the Eagles would capitalize on their momentum and take the set 25-18 over the Rustlers and the match.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was first year outside hitter, Mason short with 8 kills, 1 service ace, 1 block and 5 digs. Fourth year outside hitter, Cole Sutherland added 7 kills, 1 service ace, 1 block and 1 dig.
First-year outside hitter, Alex Larson had 4 kills, 2 blocks and 3 digs, and third-year middle blocker, Brady Cole had 3 kills, 1 service ace, 1 block and 1 dig.
The Rustlers returned to homecourt for the last time this season on Saturday for a rematch with the Eagles. Unfortunately, the Rustlers would again lose to the Eagles in 3 sets (15-25, 23-25, 24-26).
The Eagles came out strong in the first set and would defeat the Rustlers 15-25. The Rustlers would find their footing and give the Eagles a run for their money in the second set. They would lose a close game in the second set 23-25 to the Eagles.
The Rustlers continued to battle in the third set, where they would lose to the Eagles in extra points 24-26 and the match 0-3.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was fourth-year outside hitter, Cole Sutherland with 5 kills, 2 service aces, and 5 digs. First-year middle blocker, Jarret Nelson had 7 kills, 2 service aces, 1 block and 1 dig in the match. First-year outside hitter, Mason Short added 6 kills, and 6 digs, and fourth-year libero, Jean Carlos Funez had a team-high 10 digs for the Rustlers.
The Rustlers men's volleyball team completed the regular season with 11 wins and 13 losses, good enough to earn them a spot at the ACAC Conference Championships for the first time in 12 years. The Championships will be hosted by Lethbridge College from February 26-29.
