Rustlers Men's Volleyball | Weekend Recap - Nov 15 & 16, 2019
The Rustlers men's volleyball team got a pair of wins this past weekend over the Augustana Vikings improving them to 4-4 on the season.
The Rustlers defeated the Augustana Vikings in 4 sets on Friday night (25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19).
The first set was a close one the whole way through. The Rustlers would capitalize on some mistakes on the Viking side and win the first set 25-22.
In the second set the Rustlers struggled on serve receive and could not put the ball away on the outside. The Vikings would come out on top 25-17.
The Vikings would have an early lead in the third set and carry the lead through to near the end. First-year Theo Schlamp would come in to serve with the Rustlers down 18-22. A combination of Theo's serving and Rustler defense, the Rustlers would win the third set 25-23.
The Rustlers would carry this momentum into the fourth set where they would win 25-19 and take the match 3 sets to 1.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was fourth-year middle blocker Tyler Williamson with 6 kills, 5 blocks and 5 digs. Fourth-year outside hitter Matt Peck had a team-high 16 kills, and second-year setter Lane Blight had 24 assists and 13 digs.
On Saturday night in Lloydminster the Rustlers defeated the Augustana Vikings in four sets once again (23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-14).
The Vikings came out strong, perhaps for some vengeance from the previous night's loss. The Vikings would take the first set over the Rustlers 25-23.
The Rustlers would respond with a dominant performance in the second set, winning by 10 points, 25-15.
The Rustlers would continue to out-perform the Vikings and win the remaining sets 25-22 and 25-14.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was setter Lane Blight with 40 assists, 1 kill, 1 service ace and 9 digs. Peck had another 16 kills in the game and second-year outside hitter Ryan van Oosterwijck had 8 kills.
The Rustlers will be back on homecourt this coming Friday, November 22 at 8 pm following the women's match.
