Snowy day for Soccer
The Lakeland Rustlers Men's Soccer took to the field in Lloydminster over the weekend, as they faced the Lethbridge Kodiaks and Medicine Hat Rattlers.
It felt and looked like winter on Saturday, with the wind blowing and snow piled on the sidelines as the Rustlers took on the Lethbridge Kodiaks. The Rustlers were still looking for their first goal of the regular season heading into the game on Saturday and they had plenty of chances in the first half against the Kodiaks to open the scoring, but shots were high or wide. It looked like the teams were headed into the half tied a 0, but Rustlers fifth year midfielder Mackenzie Longpre was able to score as the first half was coming to a close, giving the Rustlers the 1-0 lead.
The Rustlers had chances to extend their lead in the second half, but the yellow cards piled up for both teams. In the end, seven yellow cards were handed out between the two teams. Despite all the cards, the Rustlers maintained the 1-0 lead until the 80th minute when the Kodiaks scored to tie the game at 1. It looked like the game was going to finish in a draw, but the Kodiaks managed to score in the 89th minute to give them the 2-1 win.
Player of the Game for the Rustlers was first year midfielder #25, Keilan Hozempa.
The Rustlers came out strong against the Medicine Hat Rattlers on Sunday, controlling the ball early on. The teams were physical on both sides of the ball, looking to gain control and score. Both teams had chances to score in the first half, but were unable to, and headed into the second half tied at 0.
In the second half, the physical play continued, with members of both teams being given yellow cards. Lakeland had plenty of opportunities to score, but Medicine Hat scored the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.
Player of the Game for the Rustlers was first year midfielder #5, Misama Litto.
The Rustlers hit the road next weekend to take on the Ambrose Lions (0-3-1) and Red Deer Kings (3-1-1). The Rustlers return home on Saturday October 6th to take on the Red Deer Kings.
