Rustlers soccer take on the Lions in their season opener
In their regular season and home opener Sunday afternoon, the Lakeland Rustlers and Ambrose Lions played to a 0-0 draw.
The Rustlers looked like they were going to take the lead early in the game, as they had several good shots on goal, but were unable to get the ball in the back of the net. As the half went on, the teams went back and forth, with Lakeland seeming to be in control and dictate the play. Neither team was able to score in the opening half, as the two teams remained tied at 0 after 45 minutes of play.
Both goalkeepers came up big for their teams in the second half, controlling the ball and making big saves. The Rustlers had plenty of chances to score, but Ambrose goalkeeper Jared Zimmer came up big for the Lions. On the other end, it was Lakeland goalkeeper Zach Wagner who helped control the ball for the Rustlers and prevent the Lions from scoring. In the end, neither team managed to score, resulting in the game ending in a 0-0 tie.
Player of the Game for the Rustlers was #2, goalkeeper Zach Wagner.
Next weekend, the Rustlers travel to Southern Alberta to take on the SAIT Trojans (2-0) and Olds College Broncos (0-2).
The Rustlers return home September 22nd & 23rd to take on the Lethbridge Kodiaks and Medicine Hat Rattlers. Kick-off is at 2 pm at VLA field.
