Men's Soccer Opening Weekend Recap
Conditions weren't ideal for Saturday's opening weekend match between the Lakeland Rustlers and Medicine Hat Rattlers Men's Soccer teams, as the temperature on the field was 35 degrees and the game was delayed due to smoky conditions. "It was a tough, but positive day" Rustlers Men's Coach Kevin Wagner said of the 0-0 tie. "The tie is important." Only 11 players saw the field for the Rustlers, who played well collectively and worked as a committee to earn the tie. Player of the match was Mark Anderson.
Sunday, the Rustlers had their chances to win the game, but could not capitalize, ultimately dropping the match 2-1 to the Lethbridge Kodiaks. "We hit the post and missed a breakaway," Rustlers Head Coach Kevin Wagner said. "We outplayed the opposition, but couldn't do what we needed to win. We need to score more and attack more to win." Player of the match was goalkeeper Zach Wagner.
The Rustlers return to the pitch next weekend, September 16-17, for their home opener versus the SAIT Trojans (1-0) and Olds College Broncos (0-1). Kick-off both days is at 2:00 pm.
