Rustlers Men's Basketball | Weekend Recap - January 24 & 25, 2020
The Rustlers men's basketball team managed to get 2 wins over The King's University Eagles this past weekend.
The Rustlers travelled to Edmonton on Friday to take on the Eagles and where they would defeat them 109-83.
The game was close until the half, where the Rustlers were only up 52-44. In the third quarter the Rustlers would give a strong offensive push where they would score 37 points to essentially run away with the game. The third quarter charge was led by third-year forward, Kwantez Simmons, with 11 points and third-year guard, Brandon Isaac, with 9 points.
The game would end with the Eagles giving a small pushback where they would outscore the Rustlers in the fourth quarter, but it was not nearly enough to overcome them. The Rustlers would finish the game with 109 points and the Eagles with 83.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was fifth-year guard, Terrell Murdaugh who was the Rustlers' leading scorer with 27. He also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Kwantez Simmons added 21 points, and 1 rebound, and first-year forward, Jamon Campbell had 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists for the Rustlers.
On Friday night in Lloydminster the Rustlers would take the game over the Eagles 72-57.
The Rustlers had a very strong first quarter where they would go up 29-14, and this would essentially be the difference in the game.
The first quarter charge was led by third-year guard, Rashon Russell with 11 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.
At the half, the Rustlers had managed to keep their lead and the score was 41-25. The point differential would remain for the rest of the game and the Rustlers would win 72-57.
The Rustlers were led by Kwantez Simmons with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals. Russell would also have 13 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in the game, earning him player of the game.
Fourth-year guard, Adrian Richard had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal for the Rustlers, and Terrell Murdaugh had 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal.
The Rustlers basketball teams will be hosting the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves this upcoming weekend in their double-home series weekend. Game times are 8 pm on Friday, January 31 and 3 pm on Saturday, February 1.
