Rustlers Men's Basketball | Weekend Recap - January 17 & 18, 2020
The Rustlers men's basketball team fell to the Keyano College Huskies in both games this past weekend in Fort McMurray.
On Friday night, the Rustlers lost to the Huskies 64-84. A strong start from the Huskies would be the difference in the game, as the Rustlers spent the rest of the game trying to catch up.
At the half, the Rustlers were down by 10, 30-40. The Huskies would continue to stretch their lead into the third quarter, going up by 19 points. The Rustlers would ultimately lose by a difference of 20 points, 64-84.
Leading the Rustlers was fourth-year guard Adrian Richards with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. He would be awarded player of the game for his efforts. Third-year forward Kwantez Simmons added 12 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block. Fifth-year guard Ricardo Joseph had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal for the Rustlers.
On Saturday afternoon the Rustlers looked to improve upon their performance from last night. They would, however it was not enough to overpower the Huskies. They would fall to the Huskies 74-84. The Rustlers would allow for the Huskies to have another strong start, and at the end of the first quarter the Huskies were up 29-10. The Rustlers would fight back to bring themselves within 8 points of the Huskies, and the score at the half was 40-32 for the Huskies.
The Rustlers would have a strong third quarter, bringing them closer to overcoming the Huskies, however, a strong finish from the Huskies in the fourth quarter would allow for them to beat the Rustlers by 10 points, 84-74.
Third-year guard Rashon Russell took the lead for the Rustlers with 19 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Simmons added 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in the game, and he would be awarded player of the game.
Forward Terrell Murdaugh would have 11 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals for the Rustlers. Joseph would add another 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
The Rustlers will be back on homecourt this upcoming weekend on Saturday, January 25 to take on The King's University Eagles at 8 pm and will look to regroup.
