Rustlers Men's Basketball | Weekend Recap - Nov 29 & 30, 2019
The Rustlers men's basketball team completed their first semester of league play with 2 wins over the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves this past weekend.
On Friday night, the Rustlers defeated the Wolves 77-69. After being down 42-28 at the half, the Rustlers had a strong second half allowing for them to come out on top and win the game.
In the third quarter was when the Rustlers gave their biggest offensive push, scoring 31 points. The third-quarter charge was led by third-year guard Rashon Russell with 11 points and 1 steal in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Rustlers played some dominant defense. Terrell Murdaugh and Kwantez Simmons had 3 defensive rebounds each.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was Rashon Russell with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Offensively, the Rustlers were led by fifth-year guard Ricardo Joseph with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Terell Murdaugh also had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal for the Rustlers.
On Saturday afternoon, the Rustlers defeated the Wolves 85-81. The Rustlers were up 47-38 at the end of the first half, and some strong play by the Wolves in the second half allowed for them to close the point gap up.
The Wolves would score the most points in the fourth quarter, bringing them within 4 points of the Rustlers, but the Rustlers were able to fend them off until the buzzer went.
The Rustlers were led by Terrell Murdaugh with 20 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal, earning himself player of the game honours. Ricardo Joseph had 14 points for the Rustlers as well as 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Third-year forward Kwantez Simmons had 13 points and 8 rebounds in the game.
The Rustlers men's basketball team is currently sitting at a record of 6 wins and 6 losses putting them in fifth place in the ACAC North Division at the half-way point in the season.
In the new year, the Rustlers will be traveling to Fort McMurray to take on the Keyano College Huskies January 17 and 18. The Rustlers will return to homecourt on Saturday, January 25, to take on the Concordia Thunder.
