Rustlers Men's Basketball | Weekend Recap - Nov 22 & 23, 2019
The Rustlers men's basketball team came away with 1 loss and 1 win this past weekend against the #13 nationally ranked Augustana Vikings.
On Friday night on the road the Rustlers men's basketball team lost to the Augustana Vikings 92-110.
The Rustlers had a strong start, and at the end of the first quarter they were up by 1 (30-29) over the Vikings. The first quarter charge was led by fourth-year guard Adrian Richards with 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
After losing their first quarter lead, at the half the Rustlers were down 52-47. In the second half, the Rustlers were greatly outscored by the Vikings which would be the difference in the game.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was Adrian Richards with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 1 steal.
Third year forward Kwantez Simmons had 19 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal for the Rustlers. Third-year guard Rashon Russell had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
On Saturday the Rustlers were looking to bounce back, and they did, winning the game 77-73. The Rustlers being much more comfortable in their own gym were able to score more efficiently and play effective defense.
At the half the Rustlers were up 37-33. The Rustlers would maintain strong play throughout the game and win by 4 points.
The Rustlers were led by Rashon Russell with 15 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 block, earning him player of the game honours. Fifth-year guard Ricardo Joseph had 13 points in the game along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.
Kwantez Simmons added 11 points of his own, and Terrell Murdaugh had 10 points in the game.
The Rustlers are currently sitting with a record of 4-6 and are on the road to Grande Prairie for their final weekend of the semester to take on the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves. The games can be watched live on acactv.ca at 8 pm on Friday, November 29 and at 3 pm on Saturday, November 30.
