The Rustlers men's basketball team suffered another two losses this past weekend against the Concordia Thunder. The men are 3-5 on the semester and sitting in the middle of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) North Division.
On Friday night on home court the Rustlers fell 88-76 to the Thunder. At the end of the first quarter the Rustlers were only down 1, but a strong second and third quarter from the Thunder would put them up by 19 points.
The Rustlers gave a strong push in the fourth quarter scoring 25 points led by fifth-year guard Ricardo Joseph and second-year guard Abdusalam Figaro with 5 points each. Third-year forward Kwantez Simmons added another 4 points. Unfortunately, this push was not enough as the Thunder would also score 18 and the final score was 88-76.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was Ricardo Joseph with a team-high 18 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Saturday night on the road, the Rustlers would take on the Thunder again. The Rustlers would ultimately lose to the Thunder 84-73.
At the half, the Rustlers were down 32-53. The Rustlers would work to close this gap in the second half, outscoring the Thunder in both the third and fourth quarters, but could not get ahead.
The Rustlers were led by third-year guard Rashon Russell with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist, earning him player of the game honours. Ricardo Joseph had another strong performance for the Rustlers scoring 16 points. Kwantez Simmons scored 10 points and had 6 rebounds.
