Rustlers Men's Basketball | Weekend Recap - Nov 1 & 2, 2019
The Rustlers men's basketball team faced The King's University Eagles this past weekend in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) league action. The Rustlers finished the weekend with two more wins, putting them at 3-1 for the season thus far.
The Rustlers defeated the Eagles 70-66 on Friday night in Lloydminster. The game was close in score the whole way through. At the half, the Rustlers were up by 3. Third-year forward, Kwantez Simmons had 11 points in the first half, and third-year guard Rashon Russell had 9.
The Rustlers would continue to pull away from the Eagles in the third quarter and end the game with a win over the Eagles by 4 points.
The Rustlers had 27 rebounds as a team in the game and were led by Simmons with 18 points and 3 rebounds as well as Russell with 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was Akeem Phillip with 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists.
On Saturday, the Rustlers traveled to Edmonton to take on the Eagles again. The Rustlers would win 93-80, led by Simmons with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Third-year guard Terrell Murdaugh added 16 points of his own, and fifth-year guard Ricardo Joseph added 15.
Similar to Friday night, at the half, the Rustlers were up by 3. However, the difference in Saturday's game was that in the third quarter the Rustlers would pull away from the Eagles, outscoring them 35-20. And in the fourth and final quarter the Rustlers would stand their ground and win by 13 points.
Player of the game for the Rustlers was Kwantez Simmons for his outstanding all-around play: 20 points and 7 defensive rebounds.
The Rustlers host the Keyano College Huskies this coming weekend with a series of home games: Friday, November 8th at 8 pm, and Saturday, November 9th at 3 pm.
