The Lakeland Rustlers Curling team took part in the Winter Regional over the weekend, hosted by the Concordia Thunder in Edmonton, AB. The Rustlers had teams competing in the men's, women's and mixed divisions. The Rustlers continued to build off of their previous ACAC play in the Fall Regional, which was held at the end of November.
The men's team had one on Friday, playing the host Concordia Thunder. The Rustlers dropped the match 6-3. Saturday, the men saw themselves have three games, facing NAIT, Red Deer and Olds College. The Rustlers defeated NAIT 6-3 in their first game of the day, but would then drop their next two games, 10-2 to Red Deer and 10-1 to Olds College. The team had one game on Sunday, against Augustana, which they lost 8-5. The team finished 6th in the Men's Division with a 1-5 record.
The women's team also played just one game on Friday against the NAIT Ooks. Like the men's team, the women dropped their Friday game 6-3. The women had three games on Saturday against Red Deer, Concordia and Augustan. The Rustlers started the day with an 8-3 loss to Red Deer, before dropping their afternoon game 6-2 to Concordia and their evening game 5-4 to Augustana. The women played twice on Sunday, facing Grant MacEwan and Olds College. The Rustlers lost 6-3 to Grant MacEwan, before wrapping up the weekend with a 10-9 win over Olds College. The Rustlers finished 6th in the Women's Division with a 1-5 record.
The mixed team played twice on Friday, playing against NAIT and Portage College. The Rustlers lost their first game of the day to NAIT 7-2 but followed it up with an 8-4 win over Portage College later in the day. The mixed team only played twice Saturday, facing Grant MacEwan and Red Deer. The Rustlers defeated Grant MacEwan 8-6 but lost 7-2 to Red Deer. The team played once on Sunday, facing Olds College, who they defeated 9-3. The Rustlers finished 2nd in the Mixed Division with a 3-2 record.
