Rowdy Rustler Roundup - Danny Schneider, Mens Soccer/Futsal
Sport: Men’s Soccer and Men’s Futsal
What year(s) did you compete for Lakeland: 2010-2014
How did playing for the Rustlers help you get to where you are today?
Playing for the Rustlers helped me learn discipline, accountability and teamwork. I have applied these characteristics in numerous aspects of my career and personal life.
Where are you working right now and what are you doing?
I work as a Relationship Manager for Farm Credit Canada in the Vermilion area. I specialize in agriculture lending and financial advice.
Are you still involved with soccer / futsal now? Coaching/ playing etc.
Yes, since graduating from Lakeland College, I continued in an assistant coaching role with the Rustlers men's soccer/futsal program.
What was your favorite moment at Lakeland as a student-athlete?
My favorite moment as a Rustler student athlete was winning the programs first ACAC medals in futsal and soccer (gold in futsal, bronze in soccer).
Another memorable experience was leading the first ever Rustlers soccer team onto the pitch in the fall of 2010. It was a great feeling to be part of that historical moment.
Are you still close with any former teammates?
I am still close with a lot of teammates, some remained local, some moved to other provinces, but we have remained great friends. Just recently I took a trip out to Kelowna to see, former teammates and alumni, Lewis Isle and Ashly Griffin. It has been three years since we have seen each other but felt like nothing had changed.
If you could give a couple of words of advice to our current Rustlers what would it be?
Be fully present and engaged in the experience, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years may seem like a long time, but it goes by extremely fast! When you are playing your last game as a Rustler you don't want to think back and say that you could have worked or trained harder. Be present in the moment.
