Rowdy Rustlers Roundup - Jon Albert, Men's Basketball
Sport: Men's Basketball
What year(s) did you compete for Lakeland: 2003-2006
How did playing for the Rustlers help you get to where you are today?
Hardwork and determination is what allowed me to play basketball for the college. In turn, I have used those character traits to allow me to obtain a Journeyman Gasfitter "A" ticket. I use these skills taoday as I attend classes full time.
Where are you working right now and what are you doing?
I am currently unemployed, as I am a full-time student at Lakeland College as a HOOT student. I look to transfer in to the HOPE course next Fall.
Are you still involved with your sport you competed at Lakeland now?
I play the odd basketball tournament with a few of my ex college teammates. In the past, I have helped out with the men's and women's basketball teams at Lakeland.
What was your favorite moment at Lakeland as a student-athlete?
I was able to play for Phil Allen on the inagural basketball team that Lakeland put together. I have also made plenty of life-long friendships that when we get together, we can reminisce about all the sidelines we had to run.
Are you still close with any former teammates?
Yes, I tend to keep in contact with a few. A couple of us have kids the same age, so its nice to see the kids interact with each other as teh adults catch up.
If you could give a couple of words of advice to our current Rustlers what would it be?
Work hard both on and off the court. To be able to play college sports is sweet, but you need to keep the grades up to see the court. Balancing a heavy course load, your personal life, and sports can be a juggling act,. Time Management will be the key to your success.
Any additional words of wisdom?
Cherish your years at Lakeland. The student-athlete experience goes by fast, life-long friendships you make today that will make an ever lasting impression on your lives.
