Rowdy Rustlers Roundup - Leesa Eggum
Sport: Women's Basketball & Women's Soccer
What year(s) did you compete for Lakeland: 2013-2015
How did playing for the Rustlers help you get to where you are today?
Playing for the rustlers has taught me two major skills. As a dual sport athlete, I learnt time management and accountability. I use both skills daily in and out of my career
Where are you working right now and what are you doing?
I am currently a registered nurse at the new Jim Pattison Children's Hospital in saskatoon on the pediatrics unit. I love, love, love my job.
I currently spend my time working, at the lake with friends and family, playing with my dog, or playing soccer/basketball.
Are you still involved with basketball or soccer now? Coaching/ playing etc.
After Lakeland I continued to play for the university of Saskatchewan Huskies women's soccer team for 3 years. I then was asked to play for team Canada at FISU (world university championships) for futsal in Kazakhstan. At the end of this experience, I had a major ankle injury. I now play both soccer and basketball recreationally.
What was your favorite moment at Lakeland as a student-athlete?
Looking back, it is hard to think of a favorite moment as much as the overall experience. My favorite part of Lakeland was the friendships I made.
I don't miss the practices or the games (well I do...), as much as I miss the people and friendships I formed.
Are you still close with any former teammates?
I do not live in the city as many of my former teammates but when some do come into town that I know of I do try to make time and see them.
Life gets busy so I don't talk to as many as much I would like but I follow everyone via social media and stay in contact that way.
To any of my former teammates reading this I miss you!
If you could give a couple of words of advice to our current Rustlers what would it be?
Enjoy it! Enjoy the 6:00 am workouts/practices, the long bus rides, spending time with your friends. Enjoy it all. It will go by so fast, and you will miss it.
Also, this is a demanding lifestyle mentally and physically so take care of yourself, take a nap! Give yourself a break sometimes because you deserve it.
