The final award of the night to be handed out was Athlete of the Year.
The Female Athlete of the Year was Rae Sigurdson. Sigurdson, a fifth-year business student led the Rustlers Women's Volleyball team to their third consecutive ACAC medal, earning bronze this season.
In addition to her team accomplishments, Rae was also named an ACAC All-Conference selection, ACAC Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian and CCAA Academic All-Canadian.
The Male Athlete of the Year was Zach Wagner. Wagner, a 3rd year goalie for the Rustlers played a crucial role for both the soccer and futsal teams. During the soccer season, Zach finished in the top 6 in the ACAC with a 0.638 save percentage and helped the Rustlers earn a silver medal at the ACAC Futsal Championships earlier this year.
With that, the 2018-2019 athletic season has come to a close for the Lakeland Rustlers. It was a big year for Rustlers Athletics – hosting 2 ACAC Championships, having several teams earn their first ACAC medal, Men's Curling going to nationals and much more. In addition to their accomplishments in their respective sports, the Rustlers continue to be visible in the community through volunteering and coaching, while achieving success in the classroom with 4 CCAA Academic All-Canadians.
The Rustlers have set the bar high for the 2019-2020 season, but with the continual growth shown by all teams apart of the Rustlers programs, it is without a doubt that the 2019-2020 season will be another goo one.
