Three Rustler teams Nationally Ranked
The second basketball and volleyball rankings of the season were released by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) on Tuesday, and for the first time, the Rustlers had three teams ranked in the top 15. Women's Volleyball maintained their #1 position, while Women's Basketball held onto their spot at #11. Joining the two teams was the Men's Basketball team who was ranked #14.
The Women's Volleyball team remains undefeated with an 8-0 record and in the #1 position in the CCAA rankings. The team continues to come together as a unit, despite most of the team playing together last year.
"We have really come together as a team," Rustlers third year right side Avery Maginel said. "We are learning how to serve receive with each other, learning in the game and all making sure we are doing our own job."
The team looks to continue to grow and come together during their bye week, before traveling to Fort McMurray to take on the Keyano Huskies November 17th-18th.
The Women's Basketball team remains ranked #11 nationally despite dropping their first game of the season Saturday night to the Concordia Thunder. The loss was tough for Rustlers first year guard Kaitlyn Tonita, but she believes it will be motivating for the team.
"We didn't play to our potential tonight, and that is why this happened," Tonita said. "I think it (the loss) will benefit us because we know how it feels now and it can give us motivation to never feel this way again."
The Rustlers will look to rebound from the loss when the return to the court November 17th-18th as they host the Keyano Huskies.
The Men's Basketball team sits atop the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) North Division standings with a 6-2 record and finds themselves ranked nationally for the first time this season following two gritty wins on the weekend. Rustlers fourth year forward Prentice Gardner sees his team coming together and believes their depth willingness to improve will help them.
"We like our team," Gardner said, "everyone can contribute. Each week we are coming together more and every game we find improvements and what we need to work on."
The Rustlers have an extra week to prepare as they head into their bye this weekend before they return to the court November 17th-18th as they host the Keyano Huskies.
